The Department of Energy's Office of Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy awarded a $1,721,540 Cooperative Agreement to the City of Tucson, Arizona under the Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy Information Dissemination, Outreach, Training and Technical Analysis/Assistance program (CFDA 81.117). The primary goal of this project is to support statewide workforce development in Arizona by assessing and enhancing current building industry training programs. This is intended to improve energy code compliance and reduce barriers to adopting the 2021 and 2024 versions of the International Energy Conservation Code. Key expected outcomes include increasing the building industry workforce with energy code compliance certifications, improving knowledge about energy codes, and generating greater interest in building careers, especially among marginalized communities. The project will leverage and build upon prior work from the Resilient and Efficient Codes Implementation (RECI) funded Resilient Southwest Building Code Collaborative. The 2-year project is divided into two budget periods, with the first focusing on developing regional training and certification plans, and the second implementing those plans and evaluating the impact.
