- The Ohio State University was awarded a $1.5 million cooperative agreement from the United States Department of Agriculture Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service to expand knowledge of species susceptibility to SARS-CoV-2 and better characterize the potential for zoonotic transmission. Under the Plant and Animal Disease, Pest Control, and Animal Care federal grant program (CFDA 10.025), the University will test the hypothesis that SARS-CoV-2 evolution through an animal host can lead to...
- Yale University was awarded a $722,405 cooperative agreement from the United States Department of Agriculture Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service under the federal Plant and Animal Disease, Pest Control, and Animal Care grant program (CFDA 10.025). The purpose of this two-year award effective June 1, 2023 is to develop a sustainable regional coronavirus surveillance system in the Northeast through existing infrastructure in Connecticut. Yale will partner with the Connecticut Veterinary...
- The Division of Agriculture of the University of Arkansas received a $110,695 cooperative agreement award from the Department of Agriculture National Resources Conservation Service to develop universal reverse transcription (RT)-PCR and quantitative RT-PCR protocols to amplify isolates of three viruses. The award is part of the Plant and Animal Disease, Pest Control, and Animal Care federal grant program (CFDA #10.025) and aims to protect U.S. agriculture from economically injurious plant and...
Purdue University received a $185,495 cooperative agreement award from the United States Department of Agriculture Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service under the Plant and Animal Disease, Pest Control, and Animal Care federal grant program (CFDA 10.025). The award will support Purdue's development of surveillance tools and strategies for the rapid detection and characterization of new SARS-CoV-2 variants to prevent or limit future outbreaks. Specifically, Purdue will convert a validated targeted next-generation sequencing panel for detecting pathogens like SARS-CoV-2 from a short-read sequencing platform to the lower-cost Oxford Nanopore Technologies platform. This will enable sensitive detection and sequencing of SARS-CoV-2 using a cost-effective protocol that can be implemented in laboratories with limited resources, including for wildlife surveillance testing. The deliverable will be a test to detect SARS-CoV-2 as well as mixed infections and sequence any SARS-CoV-2 present in samples from mesocarnivores. No subawards are planned under this cooperative agreement award, which runs from June 1, 2023 through May 31, 2025.
