The National Science Foundation (NSF) awarded a $1,080,998 Cooperative Agreement under the Computer and Information Science and Engineering (CFDA 47.070) federal grant program to the University of Washington. The overarching goal of this 5-year project, known as AccessComputing, is to increase the participation of people with disabilities in computing careers by serving as a catalyst and national resource. The key strategies include: (1) implementing evidence-based practices to engage more individuals with disabilities in computing education and careers; (2) increasing the capacity of institutions, projects, and industry to fully include people with disabilities; (3) developing faculty's ability to integrate accessibility content into computing curricula; and (4) fostering stakeholder relationships to promote systemic change, expand online resources, and develop future leaders in broadening participation and accessibility. The University of Washington will implement these strategies in partnership with over 100 academic institutions, professional organizations, and companies to achieve the project's objectives.
