The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) awarded a $246,406 Cooperative Agreement grant under the Regional Wetland Program Development Grants (CFDA 66.461) program to the Washington State Department of Ecology. The project aims to expand the coverage of Wetland Intrinsic Potential (WIP) mapping statewide to better support wetland management, research, and conservation in Washington. Key activities include forming a WIP technical working group, developing a quality assurance plan, gathering and processing remote sensing data, refining WIP models, and integrating the data into public GIS repositories. The project will deliver improved wetland mapping procedures and tools available statewide, leading to increased wetland identification for potential protection and restoration efforts. Direct beneficiaries include local and tribal governments, state agencies, and wetland professionals within Washington.
