THE PURPOSE OF THIS AWARD IS TO PREVENT TRASH FROM ENTERING THE PRIORITY LANDSCAPES OF THE GULF OF MEXICO.ACTIVITIES:THE ACTIVITIES TO BE PERFORMED INCLUDE INSTALLING TOUCHLESS REFILLABLE WATER STATIONS IN SCHOOLS, DOWNTOWN COMMUNITY PARKS IN MEMPHIS, AND RIVERFRONT PARKS. DEVELOPING THE PUBLIC'S AND SCHOOLS' AWARENESS OF ENCOURAGING THE USE OF REFILLABLE WATER CONTAINERS TO PREVENT PLASTIC DISPOSABLE WATER BOTTLES FROM ENTERING THE GULF OF MEXICO WATERSHED. SUBRECIPIENT:NO SUBAWARDS ARE INCLUDED IN THIS ASSISTANCE AGREEMENT.OUTCOMES:ANTICIPATED DELIVERABLES INCLUDE THE INSTALLATION OF 50 REFILLABLE WATER BOTTLE STATIONS TO REPLACE THE EXCESSIVE USE OF PLASTIC DISPOSABLE WATER BOTTLES, THE DEVELOPMENT OF A TRASH PREVENTION CAMPAIGN, AND THE DEVELOPMENT OF CASE STUDIES FOR THE REPLICATION OF WATER REFILL STATIONS. EXPECTED OUTCOMES ARE TO REDUCE SINGLE-USE PLASTIC WATER BOTTLES AND THE POLLUTION WHICH DERIVES FROM THE BOTTLES TO CREATE AND TO IMPROVE CONSUMER KNOWLEDGE/UNDERSTANDING BY 20%. INTENDED BENEFICIARIES ARE RESIDENTS IN THE CITY OF MEMPHIS AND ALONG THE MISSISSIPPI RIVER, WHO WILL BENEFIT FROM LESS TRASH ENTERING THE MISSISSIPPI RIVER AND ULTIMATELY THE GULF OF MEXICO.
