The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) Region 5 awarded a $140,000 Cooperative Agreement to the Mille Lacs Band of Ojibwe under the Climate Pollution Reduction Grants program (CFDA 66.046). The funding will be used by the Mille Lacs Band, a federally recognized Indian Tribe, to develop a Priority Climate Action Plan (PCAP) and a Comprehensive Climate Action Plan (CCAP) to establish greenhouse gas (GHG) emission reduction goals and strategies across the Mille Lacs Reservation. Key activities include completing a GHG emissions inventory, an energy audit, and stakeholder/public engagement meetings. The expected outcomes are the PCAP and CCAP deliverables, which will quantify pollution reductions and identify benefits for low-income and disadvantaged communities. The Cooperative Agreement will also support the development of the Mille Lacs Band of Ojibwe Strategic Energy Plan and enhance the Tribe's capacity to implement its Climate Change Mitigation and Adaptation Plan.
