The Environmental Protection Agency Region 5 awarded the Minnesota Pollution Control Agency a $2 million cooperative agreement under the Brownfields Multipurpose, Assessment, Revolving Loan Fund, and Cleanup Cooperative Agreements program (CFDA 66.818) effective October 1, 2022 through September 30, 2027. The funding will support the recipient in conducting eligible assessment-related activities authorized under the Comprehensive Environmental Response, Compensation, and Liability Act Section 104(k)(2) in Minnesota. Specifically, the Minnesota Pollution Control Agency will inventory, characterize, assess, and conduct cleanup planning and community involvement activities for brownfield sites in the state. The agency will competitively procure environmental professionals to perform environmental site work and report progress through the EPA's ACRES system. It is expected the funding will enable Phase I and Phase II environmental site assessments, community meetings, development of site-specific cleanup plans and analysis of alternatives, and planning documents to initiate brownfield revitalization efforts.
