This is a sole source federal contract award by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers to the South Dakota School of Mines and Technology (SDSM&T) for $122,284.27 to provide specialized paleontological services. The contract, which has a period of performance from May 1, 2016 to April 30, 2021, requires SDSM&T to survey geological strata, excavate any fossils found, and curate the fossils at an approved facility. This contract was awarded without a set-aside designation under the authority of FAR 13.106(b)(i) as the government determined SDSM&T to be the only reasonably available source capable of providing the required data quality and continuity. As a state university, SDSM&T has extensive experience conducting research and providing services to various federal agencies, including the Department of Defense, Department of Energy, and NASA, through both contract awards and grant funding.
