Altius Space Machines, Inc. was awarded a $124,947.00 Small Business Innovation Research (SBIR) Program Phase I contract by the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) Shared Services Center. The contract is for the development of a lightweight, low-cost, passive "dogtag" robotic interface that can be attached to various habitat structures and objects to enable robots to effectively outfit, maintain, and perform logistics tasks in future human-tended deep space habitats, even when astronauts are not present. This technology could help robots determine their relative position, identify objects, and simplify physical interactions, supporting NASA's plans for robotic outfitting and maintenance of deep space habitats prior to human occupation.
