The National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) awarded a Small Business Innovation Research (SBIR) Phase I contract to The Innovation Laboratory, Inc., a woman-owned small business located in Portland, Oregon. The $125,000 firm-fixed-price contract is for the development of an automated, real-time, remote turbulence detection and diagnostics system for the National Airspace System (NAS). The system is designed to leverage Automatic Dependent Surveillance-Broadcast (ADS-B) data and satellite imagery to detect and monitor atmospheric waves and turbulence, including mountain wave turbulence and convective-induced turbulence, across the continental United States. This effort aims to provide comprehensive situational awareness of turbulence conditions to support aviation safety. As a total small business set-aside contract, this award demonstrates NASA's commitment to fostering innovative solutions from the small business community.
