Redwire Space Enterprises, Inc., through its Deployable Space Systems, Inc. (DSS) division, was awarded a $124,854 firm fixed price Small Business Innovation Research (SBIR) Phase I contract from the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) to develop an innovative lightweight and modular multi-junction flexible photovoltaic blanket technology. The proposed solution leverages Spectrolab's FlexSheet super-lightweight multi-junction photovoltaic modules to enable high-power and high-voltage solar arrays that can support NASA's future solar electric propulsion, human exploration, and space science missions. This SBIR contract is intended to validate the performance and scalability of this flexible blanket technology, which can be adapted to DSS's deployable and retractable solar array structures. Successful completion of the Phase I and Phase II SBIR efforts would result in a mission-enabling capability for future NASA and non-NASA space applications.
