This is a Small Business Innovation Research (SBIR) Phase I contract awarded by the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) to Blue Sun Enterprises, Inc. The contract, valued at $119,187.00, is for the development of a "Plug-in Architecture for Software-Defined Radios" (PASDR) to enhance the capabilities of the Iris radio used for CubeSat communications in deep space. The PASDR system will include a Telecom Abstraction Layer (TAL) to implement NASA's Space Telecommunications Radio System (STRS) and enable dynamic waveform selection, as well as a Plug-in Cognition Architecture (PICA) to provide advanced link services. This contract award will allow Blue Sun Enterprises to further develop this flexible software architecture to simplify the addition of new capabilities and potentially enable in-flight updates to the Iris radio.
