This is a Small Business Innovation Research (SBIR) Phase I contract awarded by NASA to ATA Engineering, Inc., a small business based in San Diego, California. The contract is for the development of an innovative multiphysics simulation framework to improve the modeling of hypersonic reentry environments for space exploration vehicles. The framework will couple various physics solvers, including a charring ablator model, computational fluid dynamics, and nonlinear structural dynamics, to enable a more complete simulation of the aerothermal conditions throughout a vehicle's flight trajectory. The contract has a ceiling value of $124,955 and a period of performance through December 9, 2016. This Phase I effort will demonstrate the feasibility of the approach, with a potential Phase II to follow for further enhancements and validation. ATA Engineering has extensive experience supporting NASA, the Department of Defense, and other federal agencies through both prime and subcontractor roles, including numerous SBIR and Small Business Technology Transfer (STTR) contracts.
