This STTR Phase I contract, awarded by the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA), provides $124,889 to Aviana Molecular Technologies, LLC and the University of Central Florida to develop a passive wireless sensor system (PWSS) for structural health monitoring (SHM). The system will utilize surface acoustic wave (SAW) sensors that are lightweight, battery-less, and can be embedded in composite materials to monitor parameters such as temperature, range data, and gas detection. The Phase I effort will focus on enhancing the sensor transceiver capabilities to reduce size, weight, and power consumption, as well as demonstrate detection ranges up to 1 kilometer. This contract is a small business set-aside.
