This is a Small Business Innovation Research (SBIR) Phase I contract awarded by the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) to Stottler Henke Associates, Inc., a technology company specializing in artificial intelligence (AI) and advanced software solutions. The contract, valued at $124,971.00, is for developing AI techniques to automate the coordination and control of teams of unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) with minimal human oversight. The proposed innovation builds on several existing NASA-funded technologies, including planning, resource allocation, and scheduling frameworks, as well as algorithms for UAV-to-UAV task negotiation and autonomous, adaptive behavior. The ultimate goal is to enable intelligent, predictable, and robust UAV team coordination and control, with the ability to plan routes, allocate roles, and adapt to changing environments, even in the absence of communication. This SBIR Phase I contract will prototype and demonstrate the feasibility of these AI-powered capabilities on actual, physical UAVs.
