This is a Small Business Innovation Research (SBIR) Phase I contract awarded by the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) to Kaneka Aerospace LLC (doing business as API) for the development of a novel low viscosity, long pot-life infusion resin to be used with automated dry fiber placement (ADFP) product preforms. The goal is to achieve cured performance similar to that of unidirectional Hexcel 8552 prepreg parts, with improved fracture toughness and reduced production time for large, complex composite structures. The $124,965 firm fixed price contract has a completion date of December 17, 2015 and is intended to enable a new generation of low-cost composite materials critical to future NASA space programs and missions.
