This is a firm fixed-price Small Business Innovation Research (SBIR) Phase I contract awarded by NASA to Charles River Analytics, Inc., an employee-owned small business located in Watertown, Massachusetts. The contract, valued at $124,920, is to design and demonstrate a system for cognitive assessment and prediction to promote individualized capability augmentation and reduce performance decrement in astronauts during long-duration spaceflight missions. The proposed system, called CAPT PICARD, will use a suite of sensors to collect real-time data, extract and interpret indicators of astronaut state, and comprehensively predict performance deficits to support mission success. This aligns with NASA's need to address the challenges posed by the operational characteristics of manned spaceflight missions, such as disrupted sleep, long-term motion exposure, and lack of normal gravity, which can lead to fatigue, stress, and impaired cognitive and psychomotor functioning in astronauts.
