This is a Small Business Set-Aside Phase I STTR contract award from NASA's Ames Research Center to Creare LLC, a research and development company based in Hanover, New Hampshire. The $99,533 contract is for the development of an advanced multi-channel maximum power point tracking (MPPT) module optimized for radioisotope thermophotovoltaic (RTPV) energy conversion systems. RTPV systems directly convert heat from radioisotope power sources into electrical power for space exploration missions. This new MPPT module is intended to improve the efficiency and performance of RTPV systems, which can have a significant impact on the scientific capabilities and overall mission costs of future space exploration vehicles. Creare will design a prototype MPPT and assess its impact on the RTPV system design and performance in this Phase I effort, with the goal of advancing this critical power conversion technology for NASA's future flagship space missions.
