Microxact Inc., a small business manufacturer, was awarded a $124,989 firm-fixed-price purchase order contract by the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) Shared Services Center to develop a particle collimator for NASA and commercial applications. The collimator is designed to combine superior mechanical stability, light weight, efficient off-axis blocking, and high on-axis transmission efficiency. The contract covers Phase I of the project, which will finalize performance specifications, design the collimator structure, fabricate a prototype, and validate the approach. Phase II will optimize the material fabrication and design and fabricate a packaged particle collimator that fully complies with NASA specifications, with testing in a relevant environment. The collimators and antiscatter grids developed under this Small Business Innovation Research (SBIR) program contract will be commercialized in Phase III.
