Fibertek, Inc. was awarded a $124,289 firm-fixed-price contract by the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) Shared Services Center under the Small Business Innovation Research (SBIR) program. The contract aims to develop a novel, space-qualifiable, dual-pulse 1064 nm laser system as a pump laser for airborne and space-based trace gas Light Detection and Ranging (LIDAR) remote sensing systems. The laser system is designed to meet performance goals exceeding the requirements outlined in the 2018 SBIR solicitation for pulsed lasers in the 20-100 Hz range with energies greater than 100 mJ. This technology could enable future LIDAR-based remote detection of atmospheric gases such as methane, ozone, and water vapor.
