This federal contract award to Space Lab Technologies, LLC, a small minority-owned business, is for the development of a prototype analog air flow measurement system for the Portable Life Support System (PLSS) of the Advanced Extravehicular Mobility Unit (AEMU). The PLSS provides the necessary environment for crew members to operate within a space suit, including carbon dioxide washout, gas temperature control, humidity control, and trace contaminant removal. This new air flow measurement method is intended to address historical issues with flow metering in previous space suit designs, and meet low pressure drop requirements for operation beyond low Earth orbit with radiation tolerant electronics. The contract, valued at $124,994.00, was awarded by the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) Shared Services Center under the Small Business Innovation Research (SBIR) Program Phase I. It is a firm fixed price purchase order contract set aside for small businesses.
