NASA awarded a firm-fixed-price Small Business Innovation Research (SBIR) Phase I contract to Mainstream Engineering Corp, a for-profit manufacturer, to develop an advanced liquid cooling and ventilation garment (LCVG) as a critical component of the Portable Life Support System (PLSS) for future space missions to the Moon or Mars. The LCVG requires improvements to reduce weight and enhance comfort and mobility. In Phase I, Mainstream Engineering will establish a baseline thermal model and experimentally demonstrate performance improvements from different LCVG tubing configurations. If successful, Phase II will involve creating a full-scale LCVG and testing its performance in a representative environment. The potential value of this Phase I SBIR contract is $124,664.
