Diversified Technical Systems, Inc. (DTS) was awarded a $124,179 firm-fixed-price contract by the National Aeronautics and Space Administration Shared Services Center to develop and deliver a prototype Dynamic Kinematic Recorder (DKR) system. The DKR is designed to measure the biomechanical vibration, impact, and motion of astronauts' heads, necks, bodies, and helmets during critical mission events like launch, re-entry, and abort scenarios. This SBIR Phase I contract leverages DTS's prior experience developing similar motion sensing systems for applications like vehicle safety testing, aircraft ejection seats, and sports research. The DKR is intended to be an ultra-low power, lightweight, and autonomous system that can provide NASA with critical data to better understand astronaut response to the space environment and support crew safety.
