This SBIR Phase I contract was awarded by the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) to Atac, a leading provider of aviation analysis and simulation services, for the development of "Explainable AI (XAI)", a prototype tool for verification and validation of AI-based aviation systems. The contract, valued at $124,925.00, will apply an innovative technique called Local Interpretable Model-Agnostic Explanation (LIME) to a NASA-developed aircraft trajectory anomaly detection AI algorithm to make the algorithm's decisions more understandable to human users. This work is an important step towards user acceptance and certification of AI-based decision support tools and flight-deck capabilities planned for NASA's System Wide Safety and ATM-Exploration projects. The contract is designated as a total small business set-aside.
