The Department of Commerce's National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) awarded a firm-fixed-price purchase order to Ocean Instruments NZ Limited, a limited liability company in New Zealand, to provide "Sound Traps" or underwater acoustic recorders to the National Marine Fisheries Service. The $225,422.00 contract, issued in September 2020, is for the delivery of the SoundTrap ST500STD units which enable NOAA to monitor ocean noise and marine mammal vocalizations in support of research, environmental data collection, and species protection initiatives. Ocean Instruments NZ Limited has supplied similar recorders to NOAA and other U.S. Navy commands on an annual basis through various delivery orders and a larger $2 million indefinite delivery/indefinite quantity contract awarded in 2021. There was no set-aside designation for this procurement.
