This is a $502,000 grant awarded by the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) to The Washington University in St. Louis to continue the development of small-pixel cadmium zinc telluride (CZT) and cadmium telluride (CdTe) detectors for future high-angular-resolution hard X-ray astronomy missions. The grant supports the optimization of 2x2 cm^2 footprint CZT and CdTe detectors with 100x116 hexagonal pixels at a 200-micron pitch. This work is intended to enable a follow-up mission to the successful Nuclear Spectroscopic Telescope Array (NuSTAR) Small Explorer mission, which launched in 2012. The award does not have any set-aside designation, as The Washington University is a large private research institution. The grant is a continuation of the university's ongoing research and development program in this area of advanced X-ray detector technologies for astrophysics applications.
