- The University of Florida Division of Sponsored Research was awarded a $1.24 million grant by the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) to support testing and verification of prototypes for the Laser Interferometer Space Antenna (LISA) mission. LISA is a NASA-supported European Space Agency-led space-based gravitational wave observatory planned for launch in the mid-2020s. Under the grant, the University of Florida will verify the dimensional stability of LISA telescope structural...
- NASA awarded a $4.11M research grant to the University of Florida's Division of Sponsored Research for LISA (Laser Interferometer Space Antenna) Telescope Ground Verification, Part B, with a completion date of February 28, 2026. The work will be performed in Gainesville, Florida, and supports NASA's efforts to develop ground verification capabilities for the LISA mission, which aims to detect gravitational waves in the 10 microhertz to 1 hertz frequency range. This award carries no small...
- This federal contract award to the University of Florida (UF) Division of Sponsored Research supports the development of advanced simulation tools for the Laser Interferometer Space Antenna (LISA) mission. LISA aims to detect and observe gravitational waves from various astrophysical sources using a constellation of three spacecraft separated by 2.5 million km. The $576,654.63 grant will contribute to three key areas: simulating the drag-free and attitude control system that governs the...
- This federal contract award to the University of Florida (UF) through its Division of Sponsored Research supports the development of a charge management system (CMS) for the Laser Interferometer Space Antenna (LISA) mission, which consists of three spacecraft forming an equilateral triangle in orbit. The CMS is a critical component that controls the bulk potential of the test masses in the gravitational reference sensors (GRS), allowing them to freely fall and enabling the detection of...
- NASA's Goddard Space Center awarded a $23.6 million definitive contract to the University of Florida Division of Sponsored Research to design, fabricate, align, test, and deliver a technology readiness level 6 breadboard for the Laser Interferometer Space Antenna (LISA) Charge Management Device on January 1, 2021, under a cost-no-fee pricing structure with an ultimate completion date of January 3, 2028. Place of performance is Gainesville, FL. The contract funded development of flight-critical...
- This federal contract award was granted by the Shared Services Center, a civilian agency, to the University of Florida (UF) Division of Sponsored Research to conduct research and development on an optical bench for a LISA-like mission. The $649,636.25 grant will support UF's efforts to redesign the core parts of the interferometer bench, explore alternative materials and assembly techniques, and reduce the number and lengths of critical paths. This work aims to simplify the manufacturing process...
- This is a grant awarded by the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) to Montana State University (MSU) for the development of a flexible, trans-dimensional analysis algorithm to support the data analysis for the Laser Interferometer Space Antenna (LISA) observatory. The grant, valued at $601,982.00, will enable MSU researchers to address the challenging task of extracting thousands of individual gravitational wave signals from the LISA data, while accounting for instrument...
- This federal contract award to the Regents of the University of Minnesota, a major public research university, focuses on developing a new method for measuring the properties of the stochastic gravitational-wave background (SGWB) using data from the upcoming Laser Interferometer Space Antenna (LISA) mission. LISA is a space-based gravitational-wave observatory being jointly developed by the European Space Agency and NASA, expected to launch in 2034. The $433,345.00 grant will support the...
- This federal contract award is a $814,912 grant from the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) to The Johns Hopkins University (JHU) for research related to the Laser Interferometer Space Antenna (LISA) gravitational wave observatory. The grant will fund the development of tools and models to test general relativity and search for modified gravity anomalies using LISA data, including exploring how the strength of these tests varies with different astrophysical population models...
- This is a $32,904,485 cost-plus-fixed-fee contract awarded by the NASA Goddard Space Flight Center to L3Harris Technologies, Inc. to acquire one telescope structural/thermal model (STM) and two engineering development unit (EDU) telescopes for the Laser Interferometer Space Antenna (LISA) mission. L3Harris Technologies is the prime contractor and will design, fabricate, align, test, and deliver the STM and EDU telescopes. No small business set-aside was used. The contract has a period of...
The National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) has awarded a $629,755.90 grant to the University of Florida's Division of Sponsored Research to support research and development for the Laser Interferometer Space Antenna (LISA) project. LISA is a joint project between NASA and the European Space Agency (ESA), with LISA expected to launch in the early 2030s. The grant will fund the development of test equipment and a truss interferometer to evaluate the unusual optical requirements for the LISA telescopes, which must fit in a constrained space and maintain extremely tight stability specifications. The research will also examine scattered light, optical and mechanical interfaces, and tilt-to-length coupling for the LISA telescope prototype. This two-year award is the first phase of a longer plan to develop ground support equipment and test the LISA telescope prototype. The contract does not utilize any small business or socioeconomic set-asides.
