This is a $345,791.00 research grant awarded by the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) Shared Services Center to the Planetary Science Institute, a non-profit research organization. The purpose of the work is to conduct numerical simulations to investigate how in-situ segregation and frost heave may have contributed to the excess ice observed in the upper meter of the Martian regolith, with a focus on the Phoenix landing site and mid-latitude fresh crater sites in Utopia Planitia. This research grant does not have a set-aside designation and is intended to last until October 15, 2023. The Planetary Science Institute has previously supported NASA's planetary exploration goals through prime contract awards and grants, providing data analysis, modeling, software development, and other research services related to various solar system bodies.
