OBSOLESCENCE OF RAYON FIBER FOR NOZZEL CARBON CLOTH PHENOLIC (CCP) IS A RISK TO THE ARES I CREW LAUNCH VEHICLE FOR THE CONSTELLATION PROGRAM. THE NOSE CAP AND THE AFT EXIT CONE NOZZEL LINERS ARE PRODUCED FROM A LIMITED AND DIMINISHING RAYON STOCKPILE THAT WAS PRODUCED AT NORTH AMERICAN RAYON CORPORATION PRIOR TO CLOSURE OF THIS LAST DOMESTIC RAYON SUPPLIER. THE ARES I FIRST STAGE PROJECT OFFICE IS FUNDING THIS EFFORT AS PART OF A DATA EXCHANGE PROGRAM WITH THE MISSILE DEFENSE AGENCY FOR LYOCELL MATERIAL DEVELOPMENT AS A REPLACEMENT FOR THE OBSOLETE RAYON FIBER.
