- This is a Small Business Innovation Research (SBIR) Phase I contract awarded by the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) to Honeybee Robotics, Ltd. for the development of a pneumatic sample acquisition and delivery system for planetary exploration. The contract, valued at $123,628, is focused on the design and testing of key subsystems, including a high-efficiency blower, cyclone, nozzle, and tubing, to enable robust on-demand sample collection and delivery, particularly for...
- This contract award to Honeybee Robotics, Ltd. is for the development of a robotic sampling system suitable for future Venus or comet surface exploration missions. The award, valued at $124,164, is from the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) under the Small Business Innovation Research (SBIR) program. The work will leverage Honeybee Robotics' prior component-level development of extreme temperature motors, sensors, brakes, and gearboxes to integrate these into a complete...
- This federal contract award, valued at $680,146.00, was granted by the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) Shared Services Center to Honeybee Robotics, Ltd. for the development and demonstration of a Venus-durable actuator and electronics system. The goal is to enable long-term (60-day) operation on the Venus surface, which can support missions like the Long Lived In Situ Solar System Explorer (LLISSE) lander. The proposed work will leverage Honeybee Robotics' expertise in...
- The National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) awarded a Small Business Innovation Research (SBIR) Phase I contract to Honeybee Robotics, Ltd., doing business as Honeybee Robotics Craft Mechanisms, for the development of a miniature Stirling cooler capable of keeping conventional electronics cool in the high-temperature environment of the surface of Venus. This technology is intended to enable the use of temperature-sensitive cameras and optical sensors for in-situ analysis of the...
- This is a firm-fixed-price contract awarded by the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) to Honeybee Robotics, Ltd., doing business as Honeybee Robotics Craft Mechanisms, for the development of one-meter class drilling systems for planetary exploration under the Small Business Innovation Research (SBIR) program. The contract has a potential value of $2,217,416.00 and was set aside for small businesses. Honeybee Robotics, a subsidiary of Ensign-Bickford Industries, Inc., has...
- This firm-fixed-price contract was awarded by the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) Headquarters to Honeybee Robotics, LTD., a subchapter S corporation doing business as Honeybee Robotics Craft Mechanisms. The contract is a result of a downselect from awards issued under NASA's NNH15ZDA001N-S3GSI solicitation. The objective is to mature the technology for electric actuators suitable for future robotic missions to the harsh Venus environment, including the development of a...
- This federal contract award, with a value of $749,927.00, was made by NASA to Honeybee Robotics, Ltd., a small business prime contractor, to mature the Planetary Volatiles Extractor (PVEX) corer technology from Technology Readiness Level (TRL) 4 to TRL 5/6. The PVEX corer is a drill-based excavation approach with an integrated volatiles extraction plant, designed to address challenges with traditional in-situ resource utilization (ISRU) methods for mining and processing ice and icy-soil on...
- Honeybee Robotics LLC, a subsidiary of Ensign-Bickford Industries, has been awarded a $5.8 million definitive contract by the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) to develop a pneumatic excavation mechanism for lunar resource utilization. The firm fixed price contract was awarded under Phase III of the Small Business Innovation Research (SBIR) program and will be performed in Brooklyn, New York over a 30-month period ending in November 2022. The mechanism is intended to support...
- This is a $1,333,028.00 Firm Fixed Price contract awarded by the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) to Honeybee Robotics, Ltd., a For Profit Organization and Subchapter S Corporation. The contract is for research and development of an integrated sample acquisition drill and pneumatic sample delivery system to support the search for extraterrestrial life in ocean worlds such as Europa and Titan. This contract is not associated with a set-aside program. Honeybee Robotics has...
- Honeybee Robotics LLC, a Longmont, Colorado-based subsidiary of Ensign-Bickford Industries, received a $345,102 Small Business Innovation Research (SBIR) Phase III definitive contract from NASA's Shared Services Center on March 8, 2023. This firm fixed-price award, with completion targeted for September 1, 2025, supports development of a pneumatic excavation mechanism designed for lunar resource utilization. As a Phase III SBIR contract, this award represents commercialization and scalability...
This is a Phase 2 Small Business Innovation Research (SBIR) contract awarded by the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) to Honeybee Robotics, Ltd. for the development of a high-temperature (HT) rotary-percussive drill and pneumatic sample delivery system for use in Venus exploration. The $1,032,848 firm-fixed-price contract builds on prior SBIR work by Honeybee Robotics, which found that a HT trencher and blower-based pneumatic system were not feasible or carried high development risks. The current Phase 2 effort will design and build a TRL 5 system incorporating HT motors from earlier SBIR projects, with plans to demonstrate drilling into hard rocks and transferring samples to a mock-up instrument, potentially at NASA's Venus chamber. If Honeybee's separate proposal for a 3-DOF HT robotic arm is also selected, that arm would deploy the drill and deposit the samples, with the pneumatic system then moving the samples into an instrument.
