This is a $891,713 Firm Fixed Price Phase II Small Business Innovation Research (SBIR) contract awarded by the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) to Microlink Devices Inc., a minority-owned, Asian-Pacific American-owned small business manufacturer. The contract is for the development of high-efficiency, radiation-hard, and lightweight inverted metamorphic (IMM) solar cells that incorporate quantum dots to improve end-of-life performance by over 5%. The resulting solar cells will be flexible and compatible with Microlink's epitaxial lift-off (ELO) process. The contract supports NASA's work on advanced, lightweight solar power solutions for aerospace applications such as electric vertical take-off and landing (eVTOL) aircraft and stratospheric balloons.
