This is a Small Business Innovation Research (SBIR) Phase II contract awarded by the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) to Empirical Systems Aerospace Inc. (Esaero), a for-profit aerospace engineering firm, for the development of an advanced analytical tool called PANTHER. The goal is to enhance PANTHER's capabilities to enable the sizing and performance analysis of hybrid-electric rotorcraft configurations, a key focus area of NASA's Revolutionary Vertical Lift Technology (RVLT) project. The $749,887 firm fixed price contract will be used to further expand PANTHER's modeling and simulation functionality for hybrid-electric propulsion systems, including incorporation of fuel cells, flywheels, improved engine and motor models, and thermal management capabilities. This will enable a comprehensive exploration of the rotorcraft trade space enabled by hybrid-electric propulsion. The contract work is set aside for small businesses.
