This is a definitive contract awarded by the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) to Questek Innovations LLC, a small business, under the Small Business Innovation Research (SBIR) program. The $749,823 firm-fixed-price contract is for the development of an integrated experimental and analytical (model-based) technology framework to optimize and qualify additive manufacturing processes for Inconel 718 alloy.
The contract builds on the success of a prior Phase I SBIR award and aims to develop additional models for toughness, fatigue, and cracking to enable overall qualification of additively manufactured Inconel 718 components. Questek's Integrated Computational Materials Engineering (ICME) framework combines its internal Materials by Design and Accelerated Insertion of Materials (AIM) technologies to accelerate the adoption of additive manufacturing. The work is intended to address the lack of confidence in the quality of additively manufactured parts, which has hindered the transition of this technology from prototyping to production of critical components.
