This is a $512,971.36 Cooperative Agreement awarded by NASA to the University of California, Berkeley (UC Berkeley) to conduct electronic structure theory and quantum mechanics/molecular mechanics (QM/MM) computations and development. The contract supports the principal investigator's work on prebiotic chemical complexity and the organic inventory of protoplanetary systems, which will be carried out by a graduate student under the PI's supervision. UC Berkeley, as a public research university, will be responsible for the quantum chemistry research, writing reports and manuscripts, and presenting the findings at scientific conferences. This contract does not have a set-aside designation. The parent organization for UC Berkeley is the State of California Controller's Office, which has received various federal contract and grant awards, including some related to defense initiatives and scientific research.
