The National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) awarded a $1,403,197.00 cooperative agreement to Rockwell Collins, Inc. Collins Aerospace - Military Avionics & Helicopters Division to conduct research related to safety assessments for increasingly autonomous avionics systems. The award, which does not have a set-aside designation, aims to address the growing complexity and cost of developing, verifying, and certifying avionics systems by exploring alternatives to traditional test-based verification and validation methods. Rockwell Collins, a subsidiary of the aerospace and defense conglomerate RTX Corporation, has extensive experience supplying avionics, electronics, and other advanced solutions to U.S. defense, government, and commercial aerospace customers, including through past prime federal contract awards. This research effort will leverage the company's domain expertise in avionics and flight control systems to address human factors challenges associated with contingency handling for autonomous systems.
