The National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) awarded a $171,093.00 cooperative agreement to the Woodwell Climate Research Center Inc., a non-profit organization, to extend an important data record on soil respiration for an additional three years at ten research sites. This work will help NASA better understand the carbon cycle of boreal and Arctic regions in North America and reduce uncertainty around carbon dynamics during the shoulder seasons. The agreement does not have a set-aside designation. Woodwell Climate Research Center Inc. has previously conducted research for NASA and other federal agencies on topics such as Amazon fire risk, Arctic carbon budgets, and the impacts of thawing permafrost, leveraging both prime contracts and subawards to partner institutions.
