This is a cooperative agreement awarded by NASA to the Seti Institute, a non-profit scientific organization, to support an airborne observing campaign to study the physical conditions experienced during re-entry of the Orion Multi-Purpose Crew Vehicle (MPCV) during the Exploration Mission 1 (EM-1) and 2 test flights. The agreement has a ceiling value of $171,339.00 and a performance period through February 4, 2024. This work supports NASA's development of the Orion MPCV for future manned spaceflight, with a focus on evaluating the performance of the Avcoat ablator thermal protection system during the EM-1 and EM-2 missions, which will involve the Orion spacecraft returning to Earth and re-entering over the Pacific Ocean. The contract does not have a socioeconomic set-aside designation.
