About Uspeak

Through multiple federal grant awards from the Department of State Bureau of Near Eastern Affairs under the Public Diplomacy Programs (CFDA 19.040), Uspeak has implemented English language education programs for women throughout Lebanon. These have included 6-month English courses along with training on leadership, entrepreneurship, and improving women's public presence. For example, a $409,615 grant in 2023-2024 provided 700 women with 90 hours of English, workshops, and participatory research projects across 28 clusters. Another $481,262 grant in 2021-2023 delivered an English curriculum to 1,540 women in 62 clusters, with teacher training. Earlier grants of $408,857 in 2020-2022 and $401,306 in 2019-2021 funded similar English and entrepreneurship programs reaching hundreds more women. Uspeak has also implemented a $40,326 program teaching middle school students about citizenship while promoting American Corners in Lebanon. The grants aim to expand English proficiency, women's empowerment, and bilateral ties between the U.S. and Lebanon.
