About Birn
Birn is a network of independent charities operating across the Balkans with a mission to help develop an active and independent media working to international standards. Through federal awards, Birn provides training, education, and media services.
Birn has received one federal subcontract to monitor and report on transparency in Kosovo's judicial system. This includes monitoring publication of court decisions, disciplinary complaints against judges, and Kosovo Judicial Council meetings. The subcontracts were awarded by Millennium DPI Partners LLC under a Department of State contract.
Through federal grants, Birn has provided hands-on journalism training, established a fact-checking platform to fight misinformation, assisted the Ministry of Education in delivering the academic year during the COVID-19 pandemic, and conducted e-learning training for teachers. These services were supported by project grants from the Department of State Bureau of European and Eurasian Affairs under the AEECA/ESF PD Programs and other assistance programs.
