Description of Work- This solicitation and any resultant contract is a stewardship project in accordance with Section 323 of Public Law 108-7 (16 U.S.C. 2104 Note, as revised February 28, 2003 to reflect sec. 323 of J.J. Res. 2 as enrolled), the Consolidated Appropriations Resolution, 2003, amending Public Law 105-277, sec. 347. This is a request for proposals Service acquisition that has been tailored to fit the Government’s method of trading goods for services. Approximately 1,968 acres in 8 bid items will be treated with a combination of thinning and removal of commercial sawlogs, small tree thinning and removal, brush cutting and machine piling, mastication, cut and handpile small material within 100’ of private property lines, tillage of skidroads within Riparian Conservation areas (RCA’s), tillage of dispersed recreation area, tillage of landings within RCA’s, and road maintenance. Treatment areas consist of natural stands and ponderosa pine plantations. Thinning will be accomplished through cutting of individually designated trees. Reduction of hazardous fuels will be accomplished by the removal and/or treatment of thinned trees, slash, and brush.

Project Location - The majority of the project area (6,259 acres) is situated approximately 15 miles Southeast of Pollock Pines, Ca. The legal locations are: T.9N., R14E., Sections 2-4; T10N, R12E, Sections, 13 and 24; T10N, R13E, Sections 14, 15, 18-27, 34 and 35; T10N, R14E, Sections 29-36; Mount Diablo Base and Meridian (MDB&M); All treatment areas are between elevations of approximately 3400 and 6000 feet. Work unit boundaries are delineated on the ground with three horizontal Orange paint stripes on trees facing into the unit and/or blue flagging.

The solicitation is expected to be issued July 13, 2009.
