Added: Aug 16, 2013 5:40 pm The UTEC will work collaboratively The Division of Cardiovascular Sciences of the National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute (NHLBI), National Institutes of Health (NIH), is establishing one (1) Coordinating Center as part of the Jackson Heart Study (JHS) renewal.

The objectives of the renewal of the JHS program are to:
1. Support dedicated time for JHS investigators to conduct data analysis and prepare manuscripts using the wealth of data collectde.


2. Facilitate access to study resources and expertise.


3. Conduct annual phone interviews with participants to identify interim hospitalizations and outpatient medical visits, convey information about the JHS, and serve as a vehicle to recruit for ancillary studies.


4. Continue clinical events identification, investigation, and validation to improve statistical power for risk prediction and hypothesis testing.


5. Perform community health education activities to disseminate health promotion and prevention messages in the Jackson community.


6. Prepare all remaining clearned data, in SAS format (1999-2018), along with necessary documentation for their use and provide all biological specimens collected and maintained.


The Undergraduate Training and Education Center (UTEC) (Contractor) will work collaboratively with the other JHS Centers and subcontractors, the NHLBI Project Office, and the NHLBI Jackson Field Site in all relevant aspects of study development and execution. The UTEC will also participate actively in data analysis and interpretation, present study findings at scientific/professional meetings, and submit publications to peer-reviewed journals. The UTEC will also submit abstracts and manuscripts to Publications and Presentations Subcommittee, NHLBI and NIH PubMed Central, as
required. Additionally, the UTEC shall establish an undergraduate level training program focusing on cardiovascular epidemiology research. Lastly, the TEC shall collaborate and cooperate with the other JHS Centers in developing and executing a field training instructional program for students to gain hands-on experience in the conduct of large-scale epidemiologic studies.
