About this opportunity

The Department of the Interior's U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) Columbia Environmental Research Center is conducting a Sources Sought Notice for a QIAcube Connect automated system for spin-column purification of DNA, RNA, or protein from water or tissue samples. This market research effort seeks to identify potential contractors capable of providing an instrument that supports environmental DNA detection, gene expression analysis, RNA interference, and DNA sequencing projects. The notice targets businesses across various categories, with a particular emphasis on small businesses including Section 8(a), HUBZone, Service-Disabled Veteran-Owned, Women-Owned, and Economically Disadvantaged Women-Owned businesses. Interested parties must submit responses by April 25, 2025, which include their firm's contact information, a capability statement with relevant performance history, and size status. Respondents must have a Unique Entity Identifier (UEI) and be registered in the System for Award Management (SAM).

The pre-solicitation notice does not specify a set-aside designation or provide specific award value information. The procurement falls under NAICS Code 334513 for Instruments and Related Products Manufacturing, with a size standard of 750 employees. The QIAcube Connect system must have specific technical capabilities, including the ability to purify 12 samples in parallel, run different kits, provide QA/QC support, and prevent cross-contamination through UV LED light. Key instrument specifications include a centrifuge with a swing-out rotor, maximum speed of 12,000 x g, a shaker with 100-2000 RPM, a heater capable of reaching 70°C, and a pipetting system with a 1 ml syringe and 5-900 μl range. The projects will be funded by the USGS Ecosystems Mission Area Invasive Species Program, Environmental Health Program, and reimbursable grants from the Department of Defense's Strategic Environmental Research and Development Program.
