About this opportunity
The Department of Veterans Affairs, Veterans Integrated Service Network 10 (VISN 10), has published a Special Notice regarding preventative maintenance services for Steris sterilization equipment. This notice, posted on November 19, 2025, indicates the VA's intent to negotiate on a sole source basis with Steris Corporation of Mentor, Ohio, citing FAR 6.302.1 justification that only one responsible source can satisfy the agency's requirements. The contract falls under NAICS code 811210 (Electronic and Precision Equipment Repair and Maintenance) with a small business size standard of $34 million. No formal competitive solicitation is being issued; instead, this is a notice of intent to award a sole source contract.
The contract objective is to secure preventative maintenance, technical support, repair services, and autoclave chamber cleaning for Steris equipment at two Department of Veterans Affairs locations in Indiana—the Marion campus at 1700 E 38th Street and the Fort Wayne campus at 2121 Lake Avenue—to ensure the units operate in accordance with Original Equipment Manufacturer standards. The initial contract period runs from December 1, 2025, through November 30, 2026, with four optional one-year renewals available. Interested parties must submit clear and convincing evidence that competition would be advantageous to the government by 9:00 am on November 24, 2025, via email to Janel.Tate-Montgomery@va.gov; no telephone inquiries will be accepted. While this notice is not a solicitation, it provides an opportunity for contractors to challenge the sole source justification before the contract is finalized. The small business size standard of $34 million establishes eligibility parameters for potential competing firms.
