Notice text

This Small Business Sources Sought Notice is for information and planning purposes only and shall not be construed as a solicitation or as an obligation or commitment by the Government. This notice is intended strictly for Market Research. The National Institutes of Health (NIH) Eunice Kennedy Shriver, National Institute of Child Health and Human Development is conducting a market survey to determine the availability and technical capability of qualified small business, veteran-owned small business, service-disabled veteran-owned small business or HUBZone small businesses capable of providing H & E-stained slides of mouse brain sections.

Alzheimer's disease (AD) is a common neurodegenerative disease, caused by pathogenic aggregation of amyloid-β (Aβ) peptides and tau proteins in brain tissue. Aβ aggregation is believed to precede and cause tau aggregation. No effective preventions or cures for AD have been demonstrated to date.

The overall objective of this work is to test a possible prevention of AD through experiments on transgenic AD model mice. The specific objective is to obtain slides of immunohistochemically stained brain sections from 3xTg-AD mice that have received intra-ventricular injections of fibril-seeded polyacrylamide microspheres, as well as mice that have received injections of unseeded microspheres and mice that have not received injections (as experimental controls). These slides will be used by NIDDK and collaborators to quantify the effects of treatment on Aβ and tau aggregation in brain tissue.

The intended procurement will be classified under North American Industrial Classification (NAICS) code 541380 with a size standard of $15.0M All respondents are requested to identify their firm's size and type of business.
