About this opportunity

The USGS requires radiogenic isotope analysis services to conduct Lu-Hf and Sm-Nd garnet geochronology on metamorphic rock samples from Michigan's upper peninsula. The analyses will be performed by isotope dilution and are needed to ascertain the timing of metamorphism and deformation, strengthening the understanding of regional bedrock geology. This will be a firm fixed-price order conducted under FAR Part 13 and awarded based on technical capability and price. Quotes are due by January 29th and must be emailed to the points of contact listed.

There is no set-aside designation, with NAICS code 541990. The acquisition is open to all business sizes for the period of February 15, 2024 through February 14, 2025. The performance of work will take place at the contractor's location. Evaluation will be based on technical approach and price to provide the analyses for a suite of newly collected garnet samples from the upper peninsula within the stated timeframe.

Notice text

TITLE: Isotope Analysis of Lu-Hf and Sm-Nd for Geochronology of Garnet Samples

The USGS Geology, Energy, and Minerals Science Center requires garnet geochronology on a suite of newly collected samples of metamorphic rocks from the upper Peninsula, Michigan. The Lu-Hf and Sm-Nd garnet ages of these samples will be helpful for ascertaining the timing of metamorphism and deformation of these rocks. This information is essential for strengthening our understanding of the bedrock geology in the Upper Midwestern United states with new geochronologic constraints. The Lu-Hf and Sm-Nd isotope analyses will be done by isotope dilution. Refer to the Performance Work Statement for work requirements.

This shall be a firm fixed-price purchase order with a performance period of 02/15/2024 - 02/14/2025. The acquisition is being conducted under the Federal Acquisition Regulation (FAR) Part 13, Simplified Acquisition Procedures, and is open to all business size vendors. The NAICS code is 541990. Appropriate DOL Wage Determination for contractor location shall be incorporated into the award.

The award will be made to the offer that is most advantageous to the Government based on technical capability and price. RFQ Sections E.4. and E.5. provide instructions and evaluation factors, respectively. Vendors must be registered at https://www.sam.gov/ to be awarded the contract.

The deadline for quote packages is January 29, 2024. Quote packages MUST be emailed to sruggles@usgs.gov; questions to the same address.
