Whole tree piling work will take place on USFS system lands on the Klamath National Forest. This work is planned within the Mid-Klamath Rivers Community Project area, in unincorporated rural Siskiyou County, California.
Felling and piling work will take place on strategic ridges that experience high severity fire during the 2016 fire season. Ground based equipment or chainsaws will be used to fall and ground based equipment will then be used to deck/pile whole trees (conifers and hardwoods) up to 150' from the either side of the centerline of the ridge. Residual activity slash resulting from fire suppression or salvage logging will be included in the piles when present within the unit. Generally slopes within this work type are 50% or less, though some steeper sections where work is not possible may be included. The result should be a ridge with large reduction in snag density that is suitable for use as a holding and or firing feature in future prescribed and wildfire events.
This solicitation will be available on or around August 4, 2016.
