About this opportunity

The Department of the Army Corps of Engineers awarded a contract valued at $129,121.81 to Northern New England Employment Services to fund research by Florida Atlantic University. The research aims to develop machine learning models for characterizing permafrost terrains through remote sensing data to statistically identify relevant terrain variables, quantify their contribution to signals, and determine where in-situ data reduction can map permafrost ecotype, vegetation, soil moisture, seasonal thaw, surface inundation and snowpack at a regional scale.

Notice text

This contracting action is the result of a successful proposal received under the ERDC Broad Agency Announcement (BAA). The Florida Atlantic University (FAU) submitted a proposal titled, "Characterizing Permafrost Terrains Using Machine Learning Techniques" under Topic Area CRREL-2, "Terrain Properties and Processes Technical Area." The primary objective of FAU’s research is to 1) statistically identify the relevant variables and quantify their contribution to standoff signals; 2) determine what, how, when, and where in-situ data reduction can be achieved to quantify terrain variables of ecotype, vegetation, soil moisture, seasonal thaw, surface inundation, and snowpack processes; and 3) develop robust geospatial machine learning models for mapping permafrost terrains at the regional scale using remote sensing data.

Awarded contract W913E520C0005 to NORTHERN NEW ENGLAND EMPLOYMENT SERVICES for 129121.81 on 2020-04-09.
