Added: Feb 09, 2012 5:45 pm Modified: Apr 05, 2012 10:39 amTrack Changes Re: N6227112RCD9H01 Armor Plate and Anti-Spall Jacket for Robotic Platform

Item 1: Specifications for rigid ballistic armor material:

------

Purpose: to guard systems within a small all-terrain-vehicle robot body

1) Quantity Required: 120 ft^2 (feet-square) of material in sheets 3ft x 4ft OR 4ft x 4ft,

2) Availability; need first half of order in 8 weeks from receipt of order, 2nd half in 12wks

3) Must be available in sheets 36in x48in (preferred) minimum, or larger, but no larger than 48in x48in,

4) Must not require further heat treating or leveling after cutting with waterjet,

5) Must weigh no more than 7.40 lbs/ft^2 (pounds per foot-square),

6) The finished material must withstand regularly, without fracturing, ballistic hit impacts inside of one 12in x 12in square piece, the hits consisting of at least 3 groups, each group consisting of 3 shots within a 0.75in dia circle, each group spaced no greater than 9 inches from any other group; alternatively, it is considered acceptable performance to, without fracturing, withstand 15 hits within a 3in dia circle; all hits consisting of M855 5.56mm projectile fired from 17meters via an M16-A2 20in barrel rifle with a muzzle velocity of 3100 feet per second and with a 83 degree angle of incident for the impact; the target test piece is considered to be free-body unconstrained.

Item 2: Specifications for anti-spall jacket cover system:

------

Purpose: to cover critical sections of an armored, small all-terrain-vehicle robot body and prevent material from ricocheting back toward a shooter or into the vulnerable parts of the robot vehicle mechanism.

Quantity Required: 5 custom anti-spall jacket sets, covering approximately 30 ft^2 each set,

Performance requirements;

1) withstand regularly, ballistic hit impacts inside of one 12in x 12in square exposed area, the hits consisting of at least 3 groups, each group consisting of 3 shots within a 0.75in dia circle, each group spaced no greater than 9 inches from any other group, and still prevents material from ricocheting back toward the shooter or into the vulnerable parts of the robot vehicle mechanism.

Alternatively, it is considered acceptable performance to, without fracturing, withstand 15 hits within a 3in dia circle, and still prevent material from ricocheting back toward the shooter or into the vulnerable parts of the robot vehicle mechanism. All hits consisting of M855 5.56mm projectile fired from 17meters via an M16-A2 20in barrel rifle with a muzzle velocity of 3100 feet per second and with an 83 degree angle of incident for the impact.

2) it weighs less than an average of 1 lb/ft^2,

3) it functions at weather extremes of 0degC to 50degC as experienced on the firing range,

4) it is sunlight, weather and rain resistant,

5) it is designed specifically for the spalling characteristics and fragmentation of the projectile core of the M855 5.56mm projectile threat hitting highly hardened steel plate,

6) it is custom designed to fit the robot armor shell,

7) it is quickly field-attachable and replaceable in panel sections with hook-and-loop type fastening and without adhesives; ie, no hook-and-loop mating material is adhered to the base armor shell,

8) it wraps around the edges or corners of the armor shell or panels to prevent spall material from exiting out the top or sides at high velocity,

9) the bottom edges are open to allow spall material to spray or fall out to the ground,

10) the material is quilted to prevent billowing,

11) performance must be equal to or better than nylon covered, quilted aramid soft fabric rated to NIJ-IIA in the main exposed panel area and NIJ-II where it wraps around corners or edges of the armor shell or panels.

12) the covered area will be approximately 30 ft^2 and cover areas similar to the included concept drawing of the armor shell body.
