MEMORANDUM FOR Directorate of Contracting

SUBJECT: Specifications for Optical Mirrors

1. This document provides the minimum acceptable requirements for optical mirrors, to include substrates and coatings.

2. No specific vendor is required if the specifications listed in this document are met.

3. Purpose: The Photonics Research Center supports, maintains, and conducts research on photonics technologies. The acquisition of precision optical mirrors will support research in mid-infrared technologies with optical parametric oscillators.

4. Two sets of optical mirrors should support the following minimal specifications:

a. Mirror Set #1:

(1) Quantity: 6

(2) Dimensions: 1.0” round x 0.25” thick, plain/plain facets

(3) Material: BK7 glass

b. Optical Coating #1 (coated on Mirror Set #1)

(1) Coating 6pcs for Mirror Set #1

(2) Side 1: Reflectance ≥ 99.8% @ wavelengths = 1850 – 2300nm; High Transmittance ≥ 95% @ wavelengths = 1010 – 1060nm for 0º angle of incidence

(3) Side 2: Reflectance ≤ 0.5% @ wavelengths = 1010 – 1060nm for 0º angle of incidence

c. Mirror Set #2:

(1) Quantity: 6

(2) Dimensions: 1.0” round x 0.25” thick, plain/plain facets

(3) Material: IR Fused Silica (IRFS)

d. Optical Coating #2 (coated on Mirror Set #2)

(1) Coating 6pcs for Mirror Set #2

(2) Side 1: Reflectance ≥ 35±2% @ wavelengths = 1850 – 2400nm

(3) Side 2: Reflectance ≤ 1.0% @ wavelengths = 1850 – 2400nm

5. Theoretical reflectance and transmittance curves should be provided with bid.

6. Request that Dr. Kirk A. Ingold, 845.938.5565, be contacted for bid technical review before any contract is awarded.
