Specifications for a Walk-in Freezer
Purpose:
To investigate small grains’ responses to sub-zero temperatures and evaluate important agronomic traits associate with winter hardiness
Specifications:
1. Minimum 64 cu ft. (4x4x4) Inside. Larger would be better.
2. Outside dimensions no larger than 8ft wide X 8ft deep X 9ft high. Including control panel and refrigeration components. Door cannot be wider than 41 inches
3. Ramp and soak programmable from +5C to at least -20C. Lower temp than -
20C better
4. Temp fluctuation no more than 0.5C during ramping and 0.3C during soak.
5. No defrost cycling, no humidity control and no heating above 5C is required.
6. Water or air-cooled compressor. Air-cooled preferable. Unit must reach and hold temperature for up to 5 hours under ambient conditions with no defrost.
7. 7 One or more (120v) electrical outlet inside. LED lighting inside preferable but not required. Programable timer for lights preferable but not required.
8. Controller on a circuit so it can be independently powered by an
Uninterrupted Power Source.
